Consider hardwood flooring for your home
Hardwood flooring adds charm, warmth, and style to any home. These floors have a natural beauty, with knots, swirls, and grains that add character and, because Mother Nature makes wood, you'll never see the manufactured patterns that periodically repeat. Wood floors are available in hundreds of species (both domestic and exotic) and have a wide assortment of stains and finishes, but buying the best isn't just a matter of choosing a color. Which wood floor version do you want?
Most of us know about solid wood, which is one thickness throughout. However, engineered wood flooring is another version constructed differently to add stability and better handle water. As such, it's taking over a significant share of the wood flooring industry.
On the surface, both look similar, with undertones, knots, swirls, and grains, and they both add value to a property and can be refinished. Underneath, however, are three (or preferably more) layers of genuine wood combined with a bit of resin and placed in a crosswise position. As a result, engineered wood floors can be placed in some higher-than-normal moisture areas where solid cannot go.

Do you want on-site or factory-finished wood?
Some of our customers prefer finished factory products because they know right away what they are getting. Samples in hand, they can start the coordination process even before the floors arrive, and they also love that there's no mess or odors to clean up. Others, however, tell us they still prefer on-site because there's more customization, and they feel they have better control over sheen.
What’s your hardwood flooring style?
Hardwood flooring style isn't just about color but also about plank width. Wider planks are trending, and because of the fewer seams, there are also fewer visual breaks which can make a room look airy and big. However, wide planks can also have the opposite effect if your room is small, dark, and cluttered. In that case, you may choose a narrower plank or go with random widths where the varying sizes can create unique patterns.
Also, think about whether you want the warmer and more traditional look of a domestic species, like an oak or maple, or the darker and more dramatic look of an exotic one, such as Brazilian red cherry or darkest-dark ebony. Finally, do you have a preferred grain pattern? Logs are cut three ways, giving each a distinctive look. They include plain (the most commonly chosen), rift, and quarter sawn.
